A team of Uttar Pradesh STF and Haryana police detained three aides of Vikas Dubey after it raided a hotel in Faridabad in search of the gangster, who is the main accused in the Bikru village shootout in which eight policemen were killed.
The UP STF came to know about Dubey’s location on Tuesday evening and passed on the information to the Faridabad police, but before the cops reached, Dubey, along with his four aides, managed to escape.
Sources said, Dubey was hiding in Faridabad and planned to surrender before a court in Delhi. Dubey, according to police sources, is fearing that he will be killed in an encounter by the UP police. He is apprehensive about his surrender appeal before a UP court so he is trying to surrender before a court outside that state.
The raid at the Faridabad hotel lasted for two hours, during which the STF questioned Dubey’s associates. Gurgaon police had sealed its border after the raid to check Dubey’s possible entry into the district. Cops believe Dubey might be hiding somewhere in NCR.
Haryana police is now scanning the CCTV footage of the locality and nearby areas to get clue about the fugitive don. In one of the grabs, a person is seen standing on the road with a bag. “The face of the person is not visible in the grab, so it’s difficult to establish his identity. We are scanning multiple footages and the informer network has been activated to trace Dubey,” said a senior police officer of Haryana police.
Officers privy to the probe believe that soon after the ambush on Thursday night, Dubey probably reached Delhi from where he travelled to Faridabad. UP STF sleuths first reached a hotel in Badarpur locality of Delhi to inquire about the gangster and then by Tuesday night, they reached Faridabad.
Earlier, A close aide of the gangster Vikas Dubey was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur, police said. Dubey is involved in the killing of eight policemen in Kanpur and has been on the run since the incident last Thursday.
“The aide Amar Dubey was co-accused in the Kanpur incident and was killed on Wednesday morning,” UP Additional Director General of Police, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said.
He further said that UP Special Task Force (STF) gunned him down in coordination with the local police unit in Hamirpur. There was a reward of Rs 25,000 on him, Kumar added.
A police inspector and a constable of the STF were injured in the gun fight.
Hamirpur Suerintendent of Police (SP) Shlok Kumar said that an automatic weapon and a bag was recovered from Amar Dubey’s possession. “Forensic team is on their way to the encounter site, further investigation is underway,” he added.
The Uttar Pradesh Police had said on Tuesday that 40 teams and the STF were hunting for dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey. The state police chief added that the force will not rest until Dubey is nabbed.
There were reports that Vikas Dubey was spotted in a car with his men in Bijnor.
