Mumbai: While Mumbai Police was in a hurry to declare actor Sushant Singh Rajput had committed suicide on 14 June at his Bandra residence and that was because he was suffering from clinical depression, much as they continue investigating the case, the theory has few takers. The condition in which the actor’s body had been found, especially the ligature mark around his neck and no distortion of his facial expression, gave rise to a theory that he might have been strangulated in a state of sedation.
Those disbelieving the police theory refuse to accept the evidence as that of hanging. With photos and videos of the body being taken for medical examination emerging, the mystery surrounding the unnatural death of Sushant has just turned murkier.
Actress, reality TV star and Twitter sensation Payal Rohatgi, who has been complaining that the police theory does not add up, tweeted photographs and videos to show the ambulance that took the body of Sushant away from his house and the one that arrived at the centre for autopsy were different.
Even the stretcher on which the corpse was taken out of the house had changed by the time it reached the medical facility ― going by the videos and images posted by Payal and several other Twitter users.
Further, the sceptics say Sushant’s body was supposed to be taken to Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre, but it went to Cooper Hospital.
There is another video where someone carries a black polythene bag while taking Sushant’s body away from his home, disposes it of somewhere and then re-enters the frame. Conspiracy theorists are saying this is an indication of tampering with evidence.
Deshmukh refuses CBI probe into Sushant’s case
What made cynics smell a rat was Maharashtra’s Home Minister Anil Deshmukh saying that a CBI probe was not needed.
It sounded to them as though the state machinery was involved in a cover-up.
Deshmukh said that Mumbai Police was handling Sushant’s case and probing every angle including that of alleged professional rivalry ― begging the question what is the point of this elaborate exercise after prematurely announcing it was a suicide caused by depression. Further, the minister had said if the cops were to find something, they would share the information publicly. So far, the minister said, the police hadn’t discovered any ‘foul play’.
“I have the tweets and the campaign. But I don’t think that a CBI probe is required. The Mumbai Police is competent enough to handle such cases and they are investigating every aspect of the case including professional rivalry. As of now, we do not see any foul play. Details of the investigation will be shared once it is completed,” he said.
Sushant and Sooraj had an argument: A sub-plot
Sushant and Sooraj Pancholi (actor and son of Aditya Pancholi and Zareena Wahab) were not on good terms. In 2017, Sushant and Sooraj had an argument at a party hosted by Salman Khan.
Following the spat, Salman reportedly rebuked Sushant. The Tiger Zinda Hai actor asked Sushant to stay away from Sooraj. This incident lays credence to the theory that Sushant’s ‘depression’ was caused by favouritism in Bollywood ― as Salman, the mentor of Sooraj, went against the actor who hailed from Bihar.
Sooraj, on the other hand, does not enjoy a good reputation. His girlfriend Jiah Khan had allegedly committed suicide too. Jiah’s mother had then accused Sooraj of mentally harassing Jiah. But thanks to the backing of the ‘Khan lobby’ and the lack of evidence to support the allegation, the police could take no action in the Jiah case.
Imtiaz Khatri, a friend of Sooraj’s, pushed Sushant: Another theory
In yet another alleged plot, Imtiaz Khatri, a friend of Sooraj’s, emerges among the dramatis personae. Imtiaz was on Sooraj’s side during the spar with Sushant at the party hosted by Salman. In a new video that has surfaced, Imtiaz is seen pushing Sushant into a car.
While Mumbai Police has questioned Imtiaz too, it hasn’t told the media what came of the interrogation. Just as the police have not yet revealed the findings from the questioning of others related or associated with the dead actor.
Did Imtiaz have anything to do with the death or preceding psychological condition of Sushant? Mumbai Police is tight-lipped about this too.
Why would a hit actor suffer from depression?
Sushant had been a part of several films like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, Chhichhore, Sonchiriya and more. With most of his works, he left an indelible imprint on people’s hearts.
People are asking if a Bollywood actor is as good as his last release, why Sushant would suffer from depression after a runaway hit like Chhichhore.
Ironically, of course, the story of Chhichhore was about a father (played by Sushant) and his college-time friends trying to counsel a teenager who had tried to commit suicide following a prolonged bout of depression caused by poor results in a school-clearing exam.
