Anubrata Mondal arrested, says CBI, but lawyer disagrees: Here's why

Whether CBI would arrest Anubrata Mondal in connection with the cattle smuggling case was not clear until 4 PM today. The central probe agency has officially made a statement that the District Birbhum Trinamool Congress president has been arrested under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Financial Corruption Act. According to CBI sources, the Birbhum strongman was arrested at around 4:10 PM on Thursday, but was he? His lawyer contests reports that say so.

The CBI has charged Anubrata Mondal, in the news nationwide a few months ago for the awkward reason of being treated for puss accumulating in his scrotum while agencies were chasing him, under Section 120 B of the IPC and Sections 7, 10, 11 and 12 of the Prevention of Financial Corruption Act. The CBI, after detaining him first, sent him for a medical examination at the ACL Hospital. High-ranking officials of the agency then produced him before the special CBI court in Asansol.
