Kerala Govt orders CBI probe into RSS leader’s murder

Thiruvananthapuram — The UDF Government of Kerala has entrusted the task of probing RSS leader Elanthottil Manoj’s murder to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), accepting the recommendation of the State director general of police. State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, while speaking to media persons here today, said the government decided to hand over the case to the CBI as the accused has connections outside the State and abroad.

With the ordering of CBI inquiry into the killing of Manoj, the State government has accepted the demand of the RSS and BJP, much to the disbelief of the CPI(M) that was expecting a special investigating team of the State police to conduct the investigation.

Earlier, the State Crime Branch had issued a lookout notices for the suspects and conducted search operations in the houses of Venattenteveetil VT Vikraman and videographer Jithin, the two accused in the case of murder of RSS leader E Manoj who have been identified so far. Vikraman, it is alleged, was once a driver of CPI(M) Kannur district secretary P Jayarajan, whose son Jain Raj had put a provocative Facebook post just after Manoj was brutally hacked to death in his vehicle on 1 September after hurling country-made bombs at him.

It may be recalled that, in the infamous murder of TP Chandrashekaran, the SIT of the State police was unable to unearth the conspiracy involved in the case as the team couldn’t reach beyond the real assailants.  Only CPI(M) leaders up to district secretariat member P Mohanan were arrested in that case while the cadre of the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), their leader KK Rema and Chandrashekhran’s widow believe that the top leadership of the CPI(M) was involved in it.

Jayarajan has, however, distanced himself from Vikraman. To a volley of questions at the CPI(M) district headquarters in Kannur, where he had called upon a press conference against conferring the UAPA Act on the accused, said that he never had a driver by the name Vikraman.

It is to be noted that the main accused in the TP Chandrashekaran murder case, TK Rajeesh had told the investigating officers that Vikraman was involved in several murders in Kannur district including that of KT Jayakrishnan Master, who was hacked to death on 1 December 1999 while he was teaching students in Mokeri East UP School. Jayakrishnan was then the state vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of BJP.
