Kalank: Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt to reunite on screen after 21 years

Mumbai: Abhishek Varman’s upcoming multi-starrer Kalanak will feature seven heavyweights and Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt are two of them.

Finally, we will get to see them back on the big screen, after 21 years, with Kalank. The movie is being helmed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Kalank is backed by a stellar star cast including Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur, Kunal Kemmu and Hiten Tejwani.

Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit were amongst the most loved on-screen couples of all time with movies like Saajan (1991) and Khalnayak (1993) becoming blockbusters. Not only co-stars, the actors were also rumoured to be in a relationship until Dutt got embroiled in the 1993 Mumbai Blasts case. It’s been a long time since we have seen the duo in a film together.

“While Varun’s portions were wrapped up in two days, Alia was present on the set for a day after which she headed to Bulgaira to resume work with Ranbir Kapoor on Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra.”

The source added that the two stars were comfortable with each other, which comes as no surprise since they’ve given major hits together like ThaanedaarKhalnayak, and Saajan.

The source said: “Next up, Madhuri is scheduled to shoot her grand mujra song, choreographed by Saroj Khan and Remo D’souza from 5 to 7 September, while Sanjay is yet to wrap up his portions as well. All major scenes will be completed by the month-end.”

Madhuri was asked to fill in for Sridevi in Kalank after the actor’s untimely death earlier this year. The film is a Karan Johar production.

Kalank is slated to release on 19 April 2019. Dixit made her film debut in Abodh and received wider public recognition with Tezaab.

In addition to acting in films, Dixit has been featured as a talent judge for four seasons of the dance reality shows Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and Dance Deewane.
